Middy-sponsored Jamie Wilde has scooped the prestigious Parkdean Masters title and a cool £25,000 after an intense week's fishing at Whiteacres.

To qualify for Saturday 11th October's final, Jamie had to first battle his way through 5 days of dramatic match fishing - the top 24 anglers from 140 would then fish off in the final for the huge cheque and their name on the famous trophy.

Jamie had qualified for the final and all thoughts then turned to the match on Saturday. Jamie's draw saw him on peg 13, a poor area in which no-one, Jamie included, expected the winner to come from.

Jamie's tactics were to fish the long pole with worm and caster and hope that he could pick up a few skimmers and roach and hopefully a few carp along the way. A couple of hours into the match however and he had just one skimmer in his net and had lost a foul hooked carp. With top anglers like Des Shipp, Les Kerry and Rob Wootton all struggling around him Jamie decided to take a chance, ditch his pole line and spend the rest of the match casting his method feeder to the island in front of him.

His setup consisted of a Middy 4G feeder rod, a small method feeder loaded with micro pellets and a short 4" 0.18 Middy Lo-Viz hooklength, completed with a size 16 Middy KM-3 hook with a hair rigged bait band and a 6mm pellet.

Jamie's precision with his casting enabled him to build up a swim tight to the island and soon he was catching roach, skimmers, the odd F1 and a few Carassio. Talk on the bank was of how hard the match was fishing and Jamie knew he just needed to find a few better fish to be in with a chance on clinching the victory.

A fantastic last hour saw him do just that and three good carp, a mirror and two ghost carp catapulted Jamie up the leaderboard.

The weigh-in was a tense affair with Andy Geldart and Geoff Valance both weighing 43lb, but Jamie tipped his catch on the scales for 46lb 11oz, bagging him the £25,000 and the prestigious Parkdean Masters Champion 2014 title.

In a post-match interview Jamie told us, "I'm over the moon, I've always wanted to win a big title or a festival like this and I've never had a draw I could win from. I think it's helped today with how hard it's fished and I can't explain how happy I am, especially considering the quality of the anglers in the final and how difficult it is to even get here. Now I just need to win one of the other big matches!"

We're sure there is a lot more to come from the Barnsley bagger and at just 28 years old he still has a big future ahead of him. Congratulations from everyone at Middy.
