Middy Stars in Top 5 at Fish For £10K Final
10 SEPTEMBER 2013

7th and 8th of September saw another brilliant weekend for the Middy Match Team. Simon Skelton and Marc Rodger had both qualified for yet another big money final and would be competing for the £5000 top prize at Lincolnshire's Water Meadows Fishery.

The match, which was held over two days and decided on section points, was hotly contested by some of the biggest names in match fishing. With a top prize of £5000 and £500 for every 6-peg section the atmosphere was electric and each angler was keen to walk away with the cash.

As day one drew to a close both Middy anglers were still in contention, both placed 2nd in their respective sections. A good result on day two could see either of them win the top prize.

With much better weather on day two, both anglers were hoping for a good draw, but Marc found himself on peg 14 (which was far from ideal) and likewise Simon had an unfavourable draw on peg 46.

Despite the poor draws both Marc and Simon put in professional displays and, come the weigh-in, both would be high in their sections.

Marc was first to weigh and his 69lb 11oz was good enough to grab 2nd in the section, another great result but unlikely to grab top spot.

As the scales worked there way around to Simon it was evident that it would be impossible for him to win the top prize, but thanks to a fantastic end to the match that saw him catch some big fish down the edge, Simon's weight of 121lb was not only enough for a section win but he also won Day 2 of the event individually.

As the results were worked out and announced, Marc was delighted to finish in 5th place over the two days from what had been two poor draws. Simon's second day result had lifted him to 3rd place in the final standings.

Although not quite the result they were hoping for they both fished excellently and once again showed their class. They will be back next year, we're sure, for another shot at the big money.
